What I love most about Britta is that she isn’t afraid to push or challenge herself when it comes to new movements, the next scale, or simply adding a little more weight to the bar. And she’s been that way from the beginning, which is really rare to find in a new athlete. She not only moves through WODs making it look easy, she’s always doing it while encouraging those around her. She also volunteers her time for childcare and attends our events almost religiously to support the community. It is for these reasons, and so many more, that we are awarding her CrossFitter of the Month!
How long have you been attending CrossFit Fringe, and what brought you here?
I completed on-ramp just over a year ago, and haven’t turned back since! Mitch, my boyfriend and trainer at Fringe, has been doing crossfit for nearly 4 years and asked me a few times to try it out. I never thought it was for me. But after the new year in 2014, I decided I needed to commit to working out while I was a full time student to break away from all the stress and school commitments.
Since starting at CrossFit Fringe, what has changed about your lifestyle or outlook on life?
I definitely have never been one to stick to a workout plan or go to the gym on a regular basis, so coming to Fringe 4-5 times a week is a major lifestyle change! My eating habits have changed as well. We meal prep as often as we can..a lot of crockpot meals.
What is your favorite movement/skill?
Pistols are my favorite because somehow, I can actually do them consistently!
What has been the most challenging part of your journey with CrossFit?
The most challenging aspect of CrossFit was how my body changed in a way I never expected. And what I mean by that is I gained weight when I thought I would lose weight. Also, muscles started to pop up when I didn’t even realize I was working those muscles in the WODs!
What do you enjoy most about CrossFit/CrossFit Fringe?
I love that I have gained amazing friendships. When we first moved to Columbia, I hardly knew anyone, so this was a great way to meet some people that share the same passion for CrossFit!
What do you like to do outside the gym?
Now that I am done with school, I like to enjoy my time with Beans (my pup) outside as much as possible!
