CrossFitter of the Month: Kyle Juvers

DSC_0873

Kyle was chosen as our first CrossFitter of the Month because he exemplifies all traits we like to see in an athlete of our community. He is constantly seeking improvement in his athletic pursuits all while showing immense support to the athletes around him during workouts. His energy, joy, and hard-working attitude combine to make a truly awesome athlete for our community.

How long have you been attending CrossFit Fringe, and what brought you here?

Six months. I was new to Columbia and wanted to try a new workout regimen, so began to research the various CrossFit affiliates in Mid-Mo. I was looking for specific details (programming, mandatory and thorough on-ramp, scalable workouts, etc.) Only CrossFit Fringe stood out as having the caliber of coaching I was hoping for in order to learn something new.

Since starting at CrossFit Fringe, what has changed about your lifestyle or outlook on life?

Diet. Hands down. After the Whole30® Challenge we did as a group back in April, I’m much more aware of the foods I consume and how to maintain balance in my daily meals.

What is your favorite movement/skill?

I’m best with back squat and deadlift, but favorite? Snatch. It’s so technical and I can’t go heavy, but I feel like a viking when I’m holding that barbell over my head at the end.

What has been the most challenging part of your journey with CrossFit?

Double Unders. It’s the one skill I feel like I should definitely have, but don’t. I’m so frustrated by them.

What do you enjoy most about CrossFit/CrossFit Fringe?

The community. It’s a more of a team atmosphere than what you get at a traditional gym. I can’t cheat myself out of a set, or simply call it a day. The WOD is on the board and everyone is going to do it. There is support and accountability here.

What do you like to do outside the gym?

Watch sports (Cardinals, SportingKC, Illini). Happy Hour. The occasional hike.

I’m fascinated by elections, so spend a lot of time reading about campaigns and issues.

Here’s Kyle hitting a massive 60 lb PR in the back squat after 4 weeks of Smolov programming:

Congratulations Mayor Juvers, you are our first CrossFitter of the Month!
