Let’s Talk about Cheat Meals!
We’ve sure you’ve heard the term “cheat meal” before, but what does that mean and how does it affect your regimen?
What is a cheat meal?
Cheat meals are a concept of the 90/10 or 80/20 rule — where 80-90% of the time you should eat according to your specific goal-based nutrition plan, and 10-20% of the time you can indulge in something that is not on the diet.
Why have a cheat meal?
While there is no conclusive evidence that they speed up your metabolism, there is evidence that a cheat meal can help you psychologically. Let’s face it, it’s difficult to be on point 24/7, and having a fun treat or meal to look forward to can keep you motivated.
When is the best time to have a cheat meal?
Right after your workout. We know that might sound counter-intuitive, but it’s true! Immediately post-workout your food stands a greater chance of being utilized by your muscles instead of stored as fat.
Our suggestion:
Cheat meals are not for everyone, such as those with strict health or goal-specific diets. If that’s not you, we encourage you to indulge but get back on track afterward. When making your choices, still try to make better ones!
