The 2025 CrossFit Games Open at CrossFit Fringe

Fringies, the gauntlet has been thrown.

The 2025 CrossFit Open is upon us, kicking off on February 27th, and this year, we’re shaking things up with an all-new twist for our Intramural Open. Welcome to Fringe Rivals—a head-to-head showdown that will pit Staff vs. Members in a battle for the ages.

Wait, I'm new, what is the CrossFit Open?

If you are new to CrossFit, the CrossFit Open is a 3-week challenge consisting of 1 workout each week that allows athletes to see where they stack up in relation to the rest of the world. It's like a benchmark every single week to see where you are on your fitness journey. Each WOD has its own vibe, just like the workouts we do each week. The workouts will be released every Thursday evening during the three weeks, and you can watch the live announcement of the workout streaming on the CrossFit Games website. Well also be broadcasting them at the gym, so it's a great time to come and casually hang out while the elites of the sport tackle the workouts first.

After the workout is released, any athlete who has officially registered for the CrossFit Open will have until 5 p.m. PT on the following Monday to submit their score to their team captain or to games.crossfit.com if officially registered.

Okay, so a competition, got it. Why tho?

Well, big picture and at its most functional level, the CrossFit Games Open is now one of many qualifying stages for the best of the best to make it to the CrossFit Games.

But just like CrossFit, its a great test for everyone's skills and fitness. This matters because it can reinvigorate your motivation, help identify areas of weakness to further set new goals, and even push you to a new PR!

But I'm new, Im not ready, right?

The Open workouts are tough, but they are written so that any and every CrossFitter can be successful. Meaning? There's no excuse not to participate! And with our in-house intramural, you can enjoy a fun, collaborative competition. Its a fun way to bond with the community and find new training partners. We program the Open Workouts for all Friday classes anyway, so you might as well! Plus who doesn't want to be a part of a kickass team with a little in-house bragging on the table?

Why You Should Sign Up

Still need convincing? Let’s break it down:

  • For Members: This is your chance to band together, flex your skills, and prove you’ve been paying attention to your coaches. Want to remind them who’s really running the show? This is it.
  • For Staff: It’s time to put your money where your mouth is. You’ve spent years coaching these athletes—can you back it up?
  • For Everyone: The Intramural Open isn’t just about competing; it’s about celebrating what makes Fringe special: our community, hard work, and a little healthy trash talk.

Okay, we have your attention. Let's talk about the Intramural

If you've been here in the past, our format has some slight change-ups this year. We will have 2 teams, yep, you read that right, just 2 teams!

Our Theme This Year: FRINGE RIVALS

This year, we’re splitting the gym into two bold teams for the ultimate rivalry:

•The Standards Syndicate (Staff): Playful yet confident, this crew represents the enforcers of form, the setters of pace, and the leaders of our community. They’re here to prove they don’t just coach—they dominate.

•The Athlete Alliance (Members): Bold, determined, and fueled by their collective strength, this team is the backbone of CrossFit Fringe. They’re ready to rise up and show the staff they’ve been paying attention to those coaching cues all along.

HOW IT WORKS

  1. Two Teams, One Rivalry: You’re automatically assigned to a team—Staff or Members. No drafts, no choosing, just a gym-wide battle for ultimate bragging rights.
  2. Friday Night Lights: Each week’s workout will culminate in our signature Friday Night Lights events, where both teams will face off in a high-energy atmosphere full of cheering, costumes, and community.
  3. Workout Scoring: Every rep counts! Scores will be submitted by Monday at 5 PM PT, and weekly results will be tallied to crown one team the champions.

Victory Celebration: The winning team will walk away with the ultimate prize: eternal glory and the chance to help select new equipment for the gym.

The 2025 Intramural Schedule

  • February 25th: Registration deadline (don’t wait—you’ll need time to snag your team shirt).
  • February 27th: 25.1 workout announcement, featuring the first Staff vs. Member Throwdown to kick things off
  • March 1st, 8th, and 15th: Friday Nights Lights events for all three of the Open workouts

Your next steps: Register for the Open Intramural by February 25

You must register by February 25th (to ensure you get a team shirt). The admission price for the Intramural Open is only $25 with CrossFit Fringe, and includes a team t-shirt.

Additionally, as is tradition, the money collected will buy new toys we know you'll like -- because the winning team will help pick what to purchase! In years past we have added Ski Ergs, Bikes, Sandbags, more DBs, and other pieces of equipment. Whatever we can acquire to make your experience better, we will! In 2021, we even took all of the funds we raised and donated them to a Fringe family in need!
